Artistic images of Jupiter. I’m Bob Hirshon and this is Science Update.
NASA’s Juno probe is sending back incredible images of Jupiter, and planetary scientist Candice Hansen-Koharcheck of the Planetary Science Institute says NASA is encouraging the public to crop, process and enhance them.
CANDICE HANSEN-KOHARCHECK (Planetary Science Institute):
And we have gotten the most amazing pictures ranging all the way from scientific quality to just whimsical works of art.
HIRSHON:
Despite the processing, she says the atmospheric features hightlighted are real, and help point out areas of interest for scientists.
HANSON-KOHARCHECK:
These wonderful swirls and turbulence and storms — that’s Jupiter. That’s not our amateurs making things up.
